Tenants
of the Idaho State Capitol building began a complex and highly choreographed
move in mid-April to temporary "swing space" until the 2010 Idaho Capitol
re-opening.

The Governor, Lt. Governor, Treasurer, and Secretary of State will occupy swing space in the Borah Building. Some Secretary of State functions will also be housed in the State Library. The Attorney General's offices will reside in the J. R. Williams building along with the Division of Financial Management. Legislative Services will be located in the old Ada County Courthouse. Moves by these state officials and their staffs should finish by mid-May 2007.

A: Yes the Capitol is expanding from its current 199,000 square feet with two 26,000 square foot underground additions. The Idaho State Capitol is largely unchanged since 1920 (as seen here) when the state's population was 430,000. Today's state population is above 1.5 million.
.....As
I take one last look at this impressive building before we start our
groundbreaking, I'm reminded of the challenge architect John E. Tourtelette
put before us 94 years ago when he said, "Examine if you please the temples
and capitols of the world in modern times and ask yourself if they do not
truly represent the people, locations, and the periods in which they were
built...as a monument to the dignity, intelligence, and moral ideals of her
people and the resources of her domain...how aptly they tell the story of
man's state." --Capitol commission Chairman Jack Kane
......long
after most of the impressive building around it in downtown Boise...long
after our great grandchildren have enjoyed it, this Capitol Building will
stand....--Lt. Governor Jim Risch
